What qualifications are there for volunteering as a firefighter?
The qualifications for membership on the SWCFPD are: applicant must be at least 18 years of age and have completed high school or have a GED, and pass a background check and drug test, or 14 and currently attending school with a "C" average for a Cadet Firefighter.
If I volunteer do I have to enter burning buildings?
No. There is a job for everyone in the volunteer fire service. You can join the SWCFPD as a Firefighter, Driver/Operator, On-Scene Accountability Person, On-Scene Equipment Assistance.
How many hours do Volunteer Firefighters work?
SWCFPD requires a minimum of 12 hours of training per month. Additionally, there are other activities such as calls, parades, public events, etc.
Do Volunteer Firefighters get paid?
Volunteer firefighters do not get paid, but they may get reimbursed.
